The picture above is a composite that was assembled from a number of separate shots. The location of most of the bursts is about where the burst actually occurred although I did take some artistic license.
In contrast, the images shown in the slide show on the left are relatively unedited. These images were all taken with digital cameras over a span of several years. The procedure is to first set the camera for manual focus at infinitity, set the ISO to 100, set the shutter for about 1/2 to 1-1/2 seconds, and set the aperture to about f5.6 to f8. Place the camera on a tripod (however, you'll see that some of the images in the slide show are obviously hand-held). Then simply take a lot of photos and tinker around a lot. You'll be guessing at the time and location of the next rocket launch. You'll get a lot of bad shots -- don't show the bad shots to anyone!
